Washington,
Aug 6, 2008 -
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today announced he is leading a trade delegation to Brazil and Peru along with the Arkansas World Trade Center from August 10-15, 2008. This Trade mission is designed to explore opportunities in agriculture, commercial business, economic development and investment within the state of Arkansas.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase the products made by hardworking Arkansans at a global level,” Boozman said. “I’m pleased to be part of this proactive approach to open up trade in the Natural State.”
Representatives from agriculture, retail, manufacturing and government sectors will accompany the Congressman on his first trade mission with the Arkansas World trade Center. This delegation will promote diplomacy and build relationships with established businesses which would make strong trade partners. Group members will have an opportunity to meet with key government officials and business leaders. These meetings have been facilitated in conjunction with the Arkansas World Trade Center and the U.S. Commercial Services, Embassies and World Trade Center Sao Paulo.
Brazil is the leader in Bio Fuel development. U.S. exports increased by 215% between 1992 and 2006 and are the largest import/exporter for Brazil’s economy, with a trade amount of some $40 Billion annually.
Peru signed a U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement in 2007. This agreement eliminated 80% of the duties for consumer and industrial goods, two-thirds of which were for agricultural exports to Peru. Since 2005, trade has doubled to $9 Billion dollars annually.
Under consideration, is the establishment of programs with Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets on a collaboration of Doing Business in Brazil and the United States for Brazilian entrepreneurs.
This trade mission focuses on manufacturing and agriculture which are key trade industries in the Arkansas economy.
