Washington, Aug 1, 2008 -

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today voted against adjourning the U.S. House of Representatives for its five week recess because Congress hasn’t taken proactive steps to help reduce record high gas prices.

“Every day we delay finding a solution to rising energy costs is another day Arkansans are forced to spend more of their money at the pump,” Boozman said. “Congress can’t bring relief to Americans energy needs if a comprehensive bill isn’t brought to the House floor for a vote.”

Boozman says he supports a special session of Congress to address the energy issue.

“We can’t wait until September to increase our domestic energy supply,” Boozman said. “It’s in the best interest of the people of the Third District for my colleagues to allow a vote on a commonsense energy plan that will allow us to utilize all sources of energy which includes domestic exploration, renewable energy and the development of alternative energy sources.”

Congress is scheduled to return from recess September 8, 2008. Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution gives the President of the United States power to convene the Congress.
