Veterans Affairs Committee Passes Boozman Bill
Washington,
Jul 16, 2008 -
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR), Ranking Member of the Veterans Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, amended legislation he introduced before it was reported favorably by the Veterans Affairs Committee for a vote on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Boozman amended H.R. 6221, a bill that requires the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and its agents to set aside at least three percent of their contracting funds to purchase goods and services from service disabled veteran-owned small business to also include authorizing $10 million for the VA to conduct a five year pilot program to expand the veterans’ campus work study program as well as the creation of the Military Occupational Specialty Transition (MOST) to train unemployed veterans who do not have education or training benefits for up to 12 months.
“The provisions to H.R. 6221 allow veterans more opportunities to further their careers by offering more training and jobs,” Boozman said. “It’s essential for us to help provide these services to our veterans who have offered so much of their lives to helping honorably serving this country.”
Language for the amendment was authored by Chairwoman of the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT).
