Washington, Mar 27, 2008 -

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today praised FEMA for its swift response to Governor Beebe’s request for a major disaster declaration for 35 counties in the state. This announcement comes just one day after members of Arkansas’ Congressional Delegation sent a letter to President Bush and FEMA Administrator David Paulison in support of the state’s request for a disaster declaration.

President Bush’s declaration triggers the release of federal funds to help communities recover from the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that began on March 18, 2008 and is continuing.

Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Clay, Conway, Craighead, Crawford, Faulkner, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hot Springs, Howard, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Logan, Madison, Marion, Nevada, Newton, Pope, Randolph, Scott, Searcy, Sharp, Stone, Van Buren, Washington, White, Woodruff, and Yell Counties will all benefit from funds released with the federal disaster declaration.

“I applaud FEMA for its quick response to the urgent needs of Arkansans,” Congressman Boozman said. “This is a big step towards helping communities that have been devastated by Mother Nature and very welcomed news for people affected in the areas hardest hit.”

FEMA representatives say additional designations may be made in the future after further evaluation.
