Boozman: Energy Legislation Represents Dishonest Attempt to Address Needs
Washington,
Sep 17, 2008 -
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today showed his commitment to Arkansans struggling with the high cost of fuel by voting against H.R. 6899, the ‘Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act’.
“The name given to this piece of legislation is misleading,” Boozman said. “This bill is a hoax on the part of Nancy Pelosi to intentionally mislead the American public, it is not comprehensive and it does not increase production of American-made energy.”
H.R. 6899 does nothing to construct new clean coal energy production facilities, blocks more nuclear power production, permanently locks up 80 percent American energy on the Outer Continental Shelf and raises taxes.
“We need a commonsense legislative solution that increases American energy by using American resources,” Boozman said. “H.R. 6899 is nothing but a farce to provide cover for those who continue to block an ‘all-of-the-above’ solution like H.R. 6566, the ‘American Energy Act’ which meets American energy needs with environmentally sound American resources.”
